Candle Holder Series... by Roy Mackey
Below is a series of candle holders I started back in Nanaimo around 1995 or so. I had come up with a design for candle holder that would not drip wax all over the bloody place. After using it for a while I quickly realized that it was self cleaning. Once the candle burnt down to the very bottom the flame would heat up the drip tray. That would melt all the drippings caught in the tray. They would then run down into the bottom tube where the wick would still be burning away. Then almost every time the wick would stick to the side of the tube and literally burn up all the wax right to the bottom before going out. After about ten candles or so you would have to maybe dig out a couple of unburnt wicks that would be left. This sure beat other candle holders I had used that you always had to dig out all the old wax before you could put a new one in.
I also used this candle holder design on some steel beds I had made at the time. They mounted in the bottom two posts of these four poster beds. They were also designed so that you could lift them out and take them with you if you wanted. Of course because of the nice wide drip tray no wax got on your expensive bedsheets or clothes.
A lot of work goes into making these holders. Even the bottom side has lines gas welded into them and then a bead of weld around the rim to make it not so sharp. I use this standard part on all the holders in this series. Check out the video below to see more details about them and their construction.
The holders below start with my most recent and work back... kind of. Most of the ones I did in Nanaimo I don't have pics of but sold a pile of them so assume they are scattered about in Landfills all across North America! I have refined these down to a specific series now. Some have been done with found objects, others with steel scraps I have kicking around the studio some with who knows what. The connection between all of these is the actual candle holder part itself. That aside each one is a one of a kind piece of art. I will be posting more of these as I dig out photos or take more photos.
If you want to get one from this series you will need to contact me. The ones available will be listed here with the price beside it. No price means it is sold or not for sale. There are a couple that may be more than the rest. Those are the really good ones. I may even consider trades for certain things like vintage tools or other junk. If you wanted to get one. I would though act fast as the prices will be going up steadily on these until they match up all my other ridiculous prices. After all I am already getting sick of doing them.
Please note that these are all signed, dated and documented by me as I do with all my original works. When you buy one of these you are buying one from this limited collection. Remember we are not talking prints here these are one of a kind hand made, signed dated and documented originals. Of course if you are into art you already knew that.
Note: this pretty well sums up the candle holders. I have just added the last batch and think that is it. What is here is all there is. I may by some odd chance do some more but highly unlikely.
NOTE: prices on these candle holders originally started at around $49. and are now around $175. or more. They will be going up again sometime in the future. If you want one as usual I would have to say act now and save. The present prices are the ones you see below. When I do update the prices I update them all at the same time. If you see a price on one you like I will stick to the price you saw as long as it is within a week of me changing the price.

This sucker I am really starting to thing that I should be keeping it. In fact the last time I talked to George Bush he said he was taking this one the second oil prices go up. In reality you have to see these holders in person in order to actually "feel" how cool they are. Not sure why really but there is something strange about them.

Yes it takes a sharp mind and a hawks eye to realize these are gems to grab while you still can. A few shorter years than you realize from now your kids will be digging through what you left them hoping for at least one thing of value. Yes nothing but broken iPhones, outdated big screen tv's, and worthless property that is nothing more than a land tax burden.
50. $75. sorry long gondi also....
say why don't you tell me that story again about the microsoft shares you were going to buy years ago and never did. Yes snooze and you lose. I am telling you, wait another ten years and the only way you are going to get one of these is if you buy a landfill to dig up!!

In the world there are lots of
coulda's, wazgonna's and wishdiwooda's
but very few ididit's.
Ididit's are visionaries who take a chance, think ahead of their time and not only outside the" box but also outside "their box" as well.
Yes this one's gone... and maybe I wishdiwooda kept it... but I snoozed and loozed....
16. $175.

8. Rare earth magnet bases.... or just good balance? These ones are locked in my vault and not for sale. Besides they are not much use to most people unless they have a lot of metal furniture like we do here.

1. Since this is actually two then its $295...
Now that I am rich I was thinking of keeping these ones to use in our new ocean view house when we find one we like. In the meantime I might consider selling them but they would be around $649. mostly because they are so tall and have cnc cut bases filled with, I think old coins I dug up Cancun Mexico, for ballast.
I think this one sold... haven't been in my vault since I lost the combination...
This one snuck out via my free section!!!! Another cheap way to score a piece of my work!! Pays to look.
Pretty sure I sold this one during one of the Eastside Culture Crawls....
Overall I did a series of 11 chandeliers. They started from a commission by a nice lady with great taste in fine things. I still have a lot of these kicking around. One did sneak off to I believe the states... un accounted for. They were a huge amount of work but had a very unique feel to them. They are numbered from one to eleven.
